Catholics – A
Catholic-Evangelical Debate
I
was asked to do a twelve part radio series on London’s
Premier Radio in which an Evangelical discussed with
me the things that separate and unite us. Challenging
Catholics is the book that resulted from the
radio debates. My co-author, John Martin was brought
up in rural Australia in a very conservative evangelical
home, so we share lots of memories. Sometimes the
sparks fly in our debate on authority, the papacy,
Mary and the whole range of Catholic-Protestant issues,
but there’s light as well as heat. This book helps
Catholics and Protestants understand each other better,
and it provides a good starting point in discussing
the Catholic faith with Evangelical Christians. Audiocassettes
of our twelve half hour debates are also available.
Challenging
Catholics complements the work which has gone
on in official talks and through the work of theologians.
I believe this book will contribute a small part
in my larger hope that in this new millennium the
Holy Spirit will lead us into that fullness of unity
for which Christ himself so fervently prayed.
